Where the Herring Spawn

The herring spawn is one of the great natural events on the Pacific coast of North America. At the Hakai Institute’s Calvert Island field station, located off British Columbia’s Central Coast, teams are studying this phenomenal annual occurrence to determine where the herring spawn, why they spawn there, and what implications that has for the ecosystem and the hotly contested herring fisheries.
