Focal Seagrass and Macroalgae Species

Focal Species

These surveys will expand this research to include subtidal patterns of microbial ecology, with a focus on several ecologically important marine macroalgae and seagrass (Macrocystis, Nereocystis, and Zostera). Focal species will be sampled at local and regional spatial scales on Calvert Island and along the Central Coast in conjunction with the Hakai long-term seagrass and kelp monitoring programs conducted by the Salomon Lab at SFU.

Seagrass provides habitat for an array of marine fishes, invertebrates and associated epiphytes and microbes.
