Karen Adams provides reporting, audit, and budget support. She has over thirty years of combined experience and education relating to accounting and finance in various industries.
Meig’s path to Hakai Institute has been a meandering one, with brief detours through academia (prehistoric archaeology), the Grand Canyon National Park (one-on-one science and history storytelling), and the National Geographic Society and Smithsonian Enterprises (broadcast and online science media production). She’s thrilled to live and work in a place where a sea breeze is in the air and scientists are around every corner.
Brittany Baxandall is the accounting assistant in the finance department. She is the go-to person for accounts payable and receivable, and is based out of Hakai’s Campbell River office.
Lisa Pollock manages administrative duties including payrolls, benefits, and contracts. She holds an Advanced Diploma in HR from BCIT, and has previously worked in the private education and banking sectors.
Peter Kastelic joined us in April of 2015 to shape the Hakai Institute’s financial management to support growth and long-term sustainability. He is an experienced CFO with over 20 years directing emerging organizations.
Peter is a Chartered Professional Accountant and received his BComm from the University of Toronto. He has served on several boards, including Karos Health Inc,, Medicalis Corp., and Official Community Corporation.
Bridget Latham oversees day-to-day finance, budgetary, and reporting activities for the Hakai Institute. She has worked as a contractor for us since 2010, and joined as a full-time Financial Controller in 2015.
Bridget is a Chartered Professional Accountant and has worked in the private, public, and non-profit sectors.
