Hiking at Hakai Beach Some Initial Suggestions Walk the trail to the West Beach. (a few minutes) Beachcomb on the West Beach. Walk or run on the hard white sand. (an hour or so) Hike south from the end of the West Beach, then follow the signs to the lookout for a panoramic view of the site and the Pacific Ocean beyond. (a couple of hours) Hike south along a succession of crescent beaches, each with its own idiosyncracies, separated by headlands. (about four hours) Hike south as far as Three Mile Beach and back. (full day) Finally, in future, subject to approval from BC Parks, we would like to develop a trail that crossed the island from Three Mile Beach to Safety Cove for pickup by boat and return to the lodge. (multi-day loop) If you have experience hiking on Calvert Island, and/or have suggestions, please forward them to us (see Contact Us).
